Captain's Log 1.3.0

  • Cleanup no longer drops words. It used to remove words it took for filler, like "so", "and" or "actually", sometimes with meaning in them. Now it only adds punctuation and capitals and removes sounds like um and uh, and every entry is checked word for word against what you said.
  • Spanish. Set Settings > Recording > Language to Español and entries are transcribed, punctuated and tagged in Spanish. Automatic hears English or Spanish in each recording. Both use a Spanish model, a one-time 574 MB download.
  • The app itself is in Spanish when your Mac is.
  • Tags fit each entry. They used to repeat the same few tags across entries. Suggestions now come from the entry alone and reuse your existing spelling of a tag when they match.
  • Fixes a crash after a recording was stopped, or an entry deleted, once the journal window had been opened and closed. Thanks to JP in Chile for finding it.
  • A Record button in the journal window, and the menu bar shows how long you have been recording. Until now the only visible way to stop was the menu item, and there was none at all with the app in the Dock only.
  • A Mac set to Spanish starts with Language set to Automatic, including a copy updated from 1.2. Updating used to leave it on English, which turns Spanish speech into nonsense.
  • The Language picker waits while a model is downloading. Switching mid-download swapped the file being fetched.

Silo 2.0.2

  • Pages that ask before acting, such as "Discard this draft?" or "Leave without saving?", show their dialog again. These dialogs were dropped, and the page behaved as if you had cancelled.

Silo 2.0.1

  • The file chooser opens again when a page asks for a file, such as attaching to an email in Gmail or uploading to Drive. Drag and drop always worked; the chooser button did nothing.

Rivlet 1.0.2

  • Fixed: switching away from Rivlet and back no longer loses the app you had selected.
  • Fixed: apps kept outside your Applications folder no longer drop out of the list. If one went missing, it is still on disk and still runs.

Rivlet 1.0.1

  • Fixed: a new app that reused the name of an earlier one could show the earlier app's icon in the Dock instead of the icon you chose.

Captain's Log 1.2.0

  • A welcome window on first run: pick your hotkey, allow the microphone, choose where the journal lives, connect Claude Desktop, and download the models, on one page.
  • New journals go in Documents/Captain's Log. Until now the default was a folder in a cloud drive that only existed on our own Mac. If you already have entries in that folder, the app keeps using it.
  • Vocabulary. Add the names and words transcription gets wrong in Settings > Vocabulary, and how they come out when misheard. New entries spell them your way. The list is a text file in your journal folder, so it follows your journal to another Mac.
  • Tags. New entries get up to three topic tags from the model on your Mac, reusing tags you already have. Edit them in the journal, filter by them in the sidebar, or ask Claude for everything tagged work. Turn suggestions off in Settings > Recording.
  • Clean Up Again rewrites an entry from its raw transcript with the current model and your vocabulary. Entries saved as raw transcripts can be cleaned in one go from the journal's toolbar. Entries you edited are never rewritten without asking.
  • Copy Entry in the journal, and Show Journal Folder in the menu.
  • Report a Problem in the menu shows everything a report would contain, then opens an email to support with it attached. It never includes your entries or your license key, and nothing is sent until you send the email.
  • Quitting no longer crashes after a recording. The app also waits for an entry that is still being written before it quits.

Silo 2.0.0

Silo is now a native Mac app on the Mac's own web engine instead of a bundled browser. Same Google apps, same profiles, same license.

  • Much smaller and lighter: the app is about 4 MB instead of 310 MB, the download about 2 MB instead of 131 MB, and it uses far less memory.
  • Your profiles, pictures, apps and zoom levels come across from Silo 1, and your license stays activated. Google needs a fresh sign-in in each profile, once.
  • Sign-in works as it does in Safari; no more browser workarounds.
  • Google's "Choose Chrome" cards are dismissed for you.
  • Downloads ask where to save, show progress on the Dock icon, and post a notification that reveals the file.
  • Requires macOS 14 or later. Macs on older versions stay on 1.3.5.

Silo 1.3.5

  • The first profile can be edited like any other: rename it, give it a picture, choose its apps. Any profile can be deleted as long as one is left.
  • Deleting a profile signs it out and removes its Google data from this Mac. Deleting the profile you are on moves Silo to the next one.
  • Profile pictures show up. Silo keeps its own copy of the picture you choose, so pictures from iCloud Drive, Desktop or Documents no longer appear blank.
  • Clicking your profile picture in the sidebar opens a menu to switch profiles, instead of opening Settings.
  • Settings has two tabs, Profiles and Notifications, so each shows on its own. Manage Profiles in the profile menu opens the Profiles tab.

Rivlet 1.0.0

  • First version. Make a Mac app from any website: own Dock icon, own logins and cookies, Dock badge from the page title or the Badging API, Web Notifications forwarded to Notification Center, per-app userscripts and custom CSS, and a link rule that keeps the site in the app and sends everything else to your default browser. Generated apps are under 1 MB and share one runtime, so updating Rivlet updates all of them.

Captain's Log 1.1.2

  • The download bar moves. While the models downloaded on first run, the bar sat at 0% until each file was finished, which looked like a stall. The downloads themselves were fine. The bar now fills as the file arrives.

Captain's Log 1.1.1

  • Fixes 1.1.0 not opening. On every Mac, 1.1.0 quit the moment it was launched, before its menu bar icon appeared. Nothing was lost: it never got far enough to touch a journal or a setting. Because 1.1.0 cannot run, it cannot update itself, so this one is a manual download from inkling-labs.com/captains-log/download. Install it over the old copy.

Captain's Log 1.1.0

The first paid release. Captain's Log is $15 once, with a 14-day free trial, and a license covers two Macs.

  • Free trial and licensing. Every install starts a 14-day trial. After it, a license key from the receipt email unlocks the app (menu > License). When the trial ends without a key, recording, the journal window and the Claude connection pause. Your entries stay where they are, as plain Markdown files you can open in anything.
  • A small download. The app is now about 15 MB instead of 3 GB. On first run it downloads the two models it needs (about 1.6 GB, once), checks each file, and you are recording as soon as they are in place. A more accurate transcription model is an optional download in Settings > Models.
  • Updates. The app now updates itself (menu > Check for Updates). Copies of 1.0.x cannot, so this one is a manual download from inkling-labs.com/captains-log/download.
  • The app now uses the network for three things: checking its license with Lemon Squeezy, checking inkling-labs.com for updates, and downloading its models from inkling-labs.com once. None of them carries anything from your journal. Journal audio and text still never leave your Mac.
  • Silence is no longer saved as an entry. A recording with no speech shows "No audio detected" and saves nothing.
  • If the cleanup step ever drifts from what you said, the entry is saved from the raw transcript instead.
  • Entries can be edited in place, deleted to the Trash, shown in Finder or opened in your editor, from a right-click or the toolbar.
  • The Claude connection now follows your journal folder setting. In 1.0.x it kept reading the default location after the folder was changed.
  • New About window, and Settings tabs size to their content.

Upgrading from 1.0.x: install over the old copy. macOS asks for microphone and notification permission once more because the app's identifier changed to com.inklinglabs.captainslog; your settings carry over. Reconnect Claude from Settings > Chat with AI.

Silo 1.3.4

  • Zoom is remembered. Each Google app keeps its own zoom level, separately for each profile, across launches. Cmd+0 forgets it.
  • Clicking a notification opens the app it came from. Click a new mail notification while Calendar is showing and Silo switches to Mail.

Palilogy 1.1.1

  • Reveal in Finder: a job's detail pane now has a button that shows its launchd file in Finder.

Palilogy 1.1.0

  • Palilogy now updates itself through Sparkle. Check for Updates lives in the Palilogy menu and in the new About window.
  • New About window with the version, Check for Updates, and a link to the project on GitHub.
  • If you are on 1.0.0, download this version once by hand; every version after it updates on its own.

Silo 1.3.3

  • Silo now asks for notification permission the first time it runs. macOS only asks when an app first shows a notification, so in 1.3.1 and 1.3.2 the question did not come until a download finished or new mail arrived, and until then Silo was missing from System Settings > Notifications. If you are on one of those versions, finishing any download brings up the question.
  • Settings has a Notifications section. macOS notifications for new mail need notifications allowed for Silo and New mail notifications turned on in Gmail, in each profile. Each has a button that opens the right place, and clicking the first-launch notification opens Settings.
  • A notification that macOS refuses is now logged instead of vanishing.

Handybar 3.1.2

  • About Handybar in the menu: version, Check for Updates, links to the site and support.

Handybar 3.1.1

  • Browse Packs in the Welcome window opens the packs section of the Handybar page.

Silo 1.3.2

  • Cmd+P in Mail with no email open (or with Gmail in a language other than English) used to print the whole Gmail window. Silo now says to open an email first, and offers Print This Page if that is what you wanted.
  • The first update delivered by Silo's own updater.

Silo 1.3.1

The first version sold as a product. (1.3.0 was tagged but never built: the release run failed at signing, so no 1.3.0 exists anywhere.)

New

  • 14-day free trial, then a license key from Lemon Squeezy. One key activates Silo on 2 Macs. Silo menu > License shows the days left, takes a key, and deactivates a Mac so the key can move to another one.
  • When the trial ends, Silo opens on the License screen instead of Gmail. Profiles and Google sign-ins are left alone, so entering a key picks up where you left off.
  • Silo now updates itself. It checks at launch and every 6 hours, downloads in the background, and asks before restarting. Check for Updates is in the Silo menu.

Changed

  • Requires a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 13 or later. Intel Macs are no longer supported, which halves the download to about 125 MB.
  • Electron 39 to 44.
  • The bundle id is now com.inklinglabs.silo. macOS treats 1.3.1 as a new app, so on a Mac that had an earlier version, choose Silo as the default email app again (Silo menu). Profiles and Google sign-ins carry over.
  • Copies of 1.2.3 and earlier have no updater. Download 1.3.1 once from https://inkling-labs.com/silo/download; after that updates arrive on their own.

Privacy

  • Silo now makes two kinds of connections of its own: license checks to Lemon Squeezy (the key, this Mac's name, and an activation id; at most once every 7 days) and update checks to inkling-labs.com. Still no tracking and no analytics.
  • A licensed Mac that is offline keeps working for 30 days between checks.

Handybar 3.1.0

  • Packs: merge import with a review sheet, .handybarpack files, handybar:// links, and a starter pack on first launch.
  • System-wide keyboard shortcuts, icons, separators inside and between folders, and top-level folders.
  • Ask before running, {{input}} prompts, Open in Terminal, and failure notifications.
  • Commands run in your login shell. Launch at Login. Automatic updates.
  • Licensing through Lemon Squeezy with a 14-day trial; a license covers two Macs.
  • The app is now spelled Handybar everywhere, with the bundle id com.inklinglabs.handybar.

Palilogy 1.0.0

First release.

  • Create, edit, enable, disable, delete, and run launchd jobs from a native three-pane window; no plists or launchctl required.
  • Schedule editor with three modes: interval, days and time, and cron expressions with live validation and translation.
  • Live job status (loaded, running, last exit code) and a built-in log viewer for stdout and stderr.
  • Lists every user LaunchAgent, including ones installed by other apps (enable, disable, and delete only; never rewritten).
  • Crontab entries listed read-only with one-click conversion to launchd jobs; converted or unwanted lines can be removed on request. Palilogy never creates or edits cron entries.
  • Settings: System, Light, or Dark appearance and an always-clean-up option for conversions.

Silo 1.2.3

  • New app icon: the eclipse mark.

Silo 1.2.2

  • No change to the app. First release through the Inkling Labs standard release flow.

Captain's Log 1.0.2

Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. No feature changes.

Silo 1.2.1

  • Signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple. Silo opens with a double-click, with no security warning and no right-click workaround.
  • Runs under the macOS hardened runtime.

Silo 1.2.0

New

  • Cmd+P prints the open email as a formatted page instead of the whole window. Outside Mail it prints the page.
  • Clicking the profile you are already on in Settings returns you to the view you were using.
  • New app icon.

Fixed

  • Google sign-in is no longer blocked by "This browser or app may not be secure".
  • Printing an email no longer triggers the open-location prompt or Google's popup blocker warning. Popups that belong to the current app open directly in Silo.
  • The app identifies as "Silo" everywhere (product name, user agent, support folder).

Handybar 3.0

  • New menu bar icon with proper Retina rendering.

Captain's Log 1.0

First release: hotkey recording, on-device transcription and cleanup, plain Markdown entries, the journal viewer with search, and the Claude Desktop connection.

Silo 1.1.0

New

  • Silo can be your default email app. A mailto: link anywhere on your Mac opens a Gmail compose window with the address, subject and body filled in. Turn it on with Set as Default Email App in the Silo menu.
  • Gmail's unread count shows as a Dock badge, with a dot on the sidebar mail icon.
  • Downloads show progress on the Dock icon and post a notification when done. Click it to reveal the file in Finder.
  • Right-click a misspelled word for suggestions and Add to Dictionary.
  • Zoom the current view with Cmd+Plus, Cmd+Minus and Cmd+0.

Changed

  • Apps load on first visit instead of all at launch, which roughly halves startup weight and idle memory.
  • Signing in no longer restarts the whole window. Other views refresh to pick up the new session.

Fixed

  • Google Workspace sign-in being rejected with "browser doesn't support JavaScript".

Security

  • Stricter domain matching, so lookalike domains cannot render inside the app.
  • Popup and compose windows follow the same link policy as the main views.
  • The settings page and internal IPC reject malformed input.

Handybar 2.0

  • Complete rewrite with a JSON configuration file.
  • Folders to organize commands.
  • Import and export.
  • Built-in items removed; everything is customizable.
